Tarangire
National Park

Tanzania's elephant kingdom — where ancient baobab trees tower over the largest elephant herds in East Africa.

The Elephant Kingdom

Tarangire is Tanzania's best-kept secret — a rugged, atmospheric park where the landscape is sculpted by ancient baobabs and the dry season concentrates extraordinary concentrations of wildlife.

During the dry season (June to October), the Tarangire River becomes the only water source for miles around, drawing the largest elephant herds in Tanzania — sometimes hundreds strong — alongside zebras, wildebeest, and buffalo. This natural gathering creates some of the most dramatic game-viewing in all of East Africa, yet the park remains far less visited than its famous neighbours.

The park's iconic baobab trees, some estimated to be over 1,000 years old, give it a primeval atmosphere unlike anywhere else. Tarangire also boasts exceptional birdlife with over 550 species recorded — including the yellow-collared lovebird, ashy starling, and the rare and spectacular Masai ostrich.
